Wave Accounting Integration

Written by Taylor Morgan

How do I connect my Wave account?

Go to Settings → Accounting and connect with Wave, or from the Accounting tab choose "Connect to accounting provider" and select Wave. Either way, you'll sign in and authorize Venn through Wave's own login screen. Venn only needs you to approve the connection once.

What data syncs once I'm connected?

- Your Wave bank/credit card accounts

- Customers and invoices (including invoice payments)

- Card purchases and deposits

- Payments to vendors/recipients (synced as a regular expense transaction)

- Existing vendors and tax rates (read-only)

How I sync vendor's bills to Wave?

Wave doesn't allow to specify a bill payment from out of their system, including Venn. In order to sync a payment you've made from Venn to pay off a bill created on Wave, go to the accounting page on Venn, select the payment and from Accounting category select a relevant Account Payable and click sync. The payment will be synced and on Wave UI you can see the payment is associated with a Bill, you can change that by selecting a correct bill from the dropdown.

I want real bill tracking (due dates, partial payments, paid/unpaid status) for a vendor — what should I do?

You have two options:

  • Exclude that payment from accounting sync in Venn, then record and pay the bill directly in Wave's own "Record a payment" feature OR

  • sync the bill payment from Venn as described in "How do I sync vendor bills to Wave?", then go into Wave afterward and select the correct bill from the dropdown to fix the association.

Why doesn't a vendor name show up on my synced transaction?

Wave doesn't allow vendor information to be pushed along with a transaction through a connected app. The payment still syncs correctly (amount, account, category); it just won't be tagged to a vendor in Wave. You can edit the transaction in Wave afterward and add the vendor manually.

What other things doesn't Wave support?

A few other gaps are limitations of Wave's platform itself, not something specific to Venn:

- Transfers between your own bank accounts

- Receipts/attachments can't be pushed to Wave

- Tax rates can only be used if they already exist in Wave — Venn can't create new ones there

- Wave doesn't support custom categorization dimensions (like Class, Department, or Location) — only the basic account/category selection syncs

Something looks wrong — what should I check first?

- Confirm the correct Wave business is connected (if your Wave account has more than one business)

- Confirm the vendor name matches exactly between Venn and Wave

- If still unresolved, contact support
